A modestly-priced juvenile from a regional breeding program, Smoke Glacken proved a bargain as he was widely considered the fastest horse in the United States at the time of his retirement. Consistent and willing as a racehorse, he proved a good sire of speed and precocity following his retirement from racing.

Foaled in Maryland, Smoke Glacken was bred by Perry M. Rosebrock. He was owned by Alex Karkenny, William Roberts and Robert Levy, who purchased him for US$65,000 from the 1996 Fasig-Tipton Mid-Atlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training. He was trained by Henry Carroll. He stood at Gainesway Farm from 1998 until being pensioned in October 2013 due to declining fertility. He was humanely destroyed at Gainesway due to the infirmities of old age in April 2016 and was buried at the farm.
