Snow Bride (USA)

February 28, 1986 – June 10, 2009

Blushing Groom (FR) x Awaasif (CAN), by Snow Knight (GB)

Family 22-b
A talented, consistent filly, Snow Bride ran second in the 1989 Gold Seal Oaks (ENG-G1) but was awarded the win after the apparent victor, Aliysa, was disqualified due to a controversial drug positive. She proved a valuable broodmare after her retirement from racing, producing a champion, two other stakes winners, and two Group 1 producers. However, her best son was not a success at stud, and the long-term influence of her daughters remains to be seen.

Earned Timeform ratings of 102 pounds at 2 and 121 pounds at 3.

As an individual

A small and sparely made chestnut mare, Snow Bride had a light, quick action when racing.

As a producer

Snow Bride produced 13 named foals. Of these, 11 started; six were winners. Her important foals are as follow:
  • Lammtarra (1992, by Nijinsky II) was the 1995 European champion 3-year-old male. Exported to Japan, he was a stud failure.
  • Kammtarra (1993, by Zilzal) won two listed stakes races in Dubai as a 4-year-old. He was exported to Jamaica for stallion duty.
  • Saytarra (1996, by Seeking the Gold) won the 1998 Prix d’Aumale (FR-G3) but was a disappointing broodmare.
  • Abhisheka (2003, by Sadler’s Wells) placed in a listed stakes as a 4-year-old. She is the dam of 2012 Prix Jean Prat (FR-G1) winner Aesop’s Fables (by Distorted Humor).
  • Snow Ballerina (2004, by Sadler’s Wells) was unplaced in four starts but is the dam of 2016 Prix Fille de l’Air (FR-G3) winner Powder Snow (by Dubawi) and the second dam of Grade/Group 3 winners Beautiful Love and Flying Honours.
  • Concordia (2006, by Pivotal) won one of her five starts. She is the dam of 2017 Sydney Cup (AUS-G1) winner Polarisation (by Echo of Light) and Group 2-placed listed stakes winner Clearly (by Invincible Spirit).

Connections

Foaled in Kentucky, Snow Bride was bred by Darley Stud Management. As a 2-year-old, she was owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum; at 3, she was transferred to the ownership of Saeed Maktoum Al Maktoum. She was trained by Henry Cecil, who was later knighted for his accomplishments in his profession, and was ridden in the Oaks Stakes by Steve Cauthen. She was euthanized at Sheikh Mohammed’s Dalham Hall Stud in June 2009 due to the infirmities of old age.
