Although he made 14 starts as a 2-year-old, Stimulus did not have the best of underpinnings and never returned to racing after that year. A good sire of precocity and speed, he was a good broodmare sire as well and was one of the early sires to contribute to Claiborne Farm's reputation as a stallion station.
Race record

1924:
Assessments
Ranked second among American 2-year-old males of 1924 by The Blood-Horse.
As an individual
A flashily marked chestnut horse, Stimulus was probably a carrier of the sabino gene. He was muscular with a strong body and hip. According to Charles Hatton of the Daily Racing Form, Stimulus had bad knees. He did not race after his 2-year-old season due to a tendon injury suffered while he was training for his debut as a 3-year-old.
As a stallion
According to records kept by The Jockey Club, Stimulus sired 281 winners (61.6%) and 39 stakes winners (13.9%) from 456 foals. A notable sire of speed, he was said to have passed on knee problems to many of his progeny.

Stimulus did not race after his juvenile season due to a tendon injury suffered while training for his 3-year-old debut. He was humanely destroyed on April 24, 1945, at Claiborne Farm after his tendons gave way to the point that he could not rise in his stall without assistance.
Pedigree notes
Stimulus is inbred 4x5 to two-time Ascot Gold Cup winner Isonomy and 5x4 to the important 19th-century American sire Alarm. He is a full brother to juvenile stakes winner Equinoctal, dam of multiple stakes winners Calm (by St. James; dam of Canadian stakes winner Undisturbed, by Stand Pat) and Tempestuous (by Sickle) and second dam of 1948 Misty Isle Stakes winner In the Pink. Stimulus is also a half brother to 1926 New Orleans Handicap winner Nurmi (by The Finn).
Stimulus' dam Hurakan was a multiple stakes winner during her own racing days and is a half sister to 1907 California Oaks winner Eudora (by Plaudit). Their dam The Hoyden (by Esher), a juvenile stakes winner, is out of the Erdenheim mare The Maid, whose half sister Matinee (by Buckden) was a stakes winner and the dam of multiple juvenile stakes winner Afternoon (by Troubador).
