Storm Song was the logical choice as 1996’s American champion 2-year-old filly after whipping the best of her rivals in that year’s Frizette Stakes (USA-G1) and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (USA-G1). She was not able to return to that level of success at 3 and was retired in May 1997 after finishing unplaced in the Acorn Stakes (USA-G1). While not a great success as a dam of winners, she already has three daughters that have produced champions and has several more daughters who are still early in their producing careers.

As an individual
A well-balanced bay mare, Storm Song is feminine with an attractive head and eye but has good substance. Her withers are prominent and her croup is sloped. While not a difficult mare to deal with, she has impressed her human handlers with her strong personality.

Foaled in Kentucky, Storm Song was bred by William S. Farish III and Ogden Mills Phipps. After being sold fgor US$100,000 through the 1995 Keeneland September yearling sale, she was owned by Dogwood Stable and was trained by Nick Zito. She was ridden to her Breeders’ Cup win by Craig Perret. Following her racing career, she was sold to J. S. Carrion for $1.4 million through the 1997 Keeneland November mixed sale. She was later purchased privately by Darley. In 2009, she went back to Keeneland November and sold for US$100,000 to Dr. Aaron Sones. She has since resided at Winchester Farm in Kentucky, where she has been a pensioner since the birth of her last foal in 2018.
