On race record, Stormy Atlantic would probably have done well to become a useful regional sire. But as the son of a hot “sire of sires” and the scion of a top sire-producing family, he got more opportunities than he otherwise would have warranted. Unlike many another modestly-performing blueblood, he made the most of them, becoming a good sire of juveniles and turf runners.
Race record
15 starts, 6 wins, 2 seconds, 1 third, US$148,126
1998:
As an individual
A short-coupled dark bay or brown horse standing 16.2 hands, Stormy Atlantic has the powerful body and hip typical of the Storm Cats but is leggier than most of his male line. He has a slightly convex profile. He made only one start each at 2 and 3, suggesting physical issues, but was sound enough when healthy to make 13 starts as a 4-year-old.
As a stallion
As of September 19, 2022, Stormy Atlantic has sired 109 stakes winners according to records maintained by The Jockey Club.
