Straight Deal was a late foal in more ways than one. Born in June, she was the eighth and final foal produced by No Fiddling, a mare that couldn't win in 18 starts. Given No Fiddling's race record and previous production record, even Hirsch Jacobs' legendary patience with horses had to be nearly exhausted when Straight Deal came along, but a bit more of that same patience paid off when Straight Deal became the American champion handicap female of 1967. Following her racing career, Straight Deal became a successful broodmare who more than did her part in carrying on the Big Hurry branch of the great La Troienne family.

As an individual
A tall, plain, rather angular bay mare, Straight Deal had an excellent shoulder and hip and had plenty of power. Her hind leg was straight and strong. She had a smooth way of going and was light on her feet for a horse of her size, contributing to her soundness and durability. She was thoroughly genuine on the track.
As a producer
Straight Deal produced 10 named foals, of which nine started and eight won. Her important foals are as follow:
Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Straight Deal was bred and owned by the Bieber-Jacobs Stable, racing in the colors of Hirsch Jacobs' wife Ethel. She was trained by Hirsch Jacobs with substantial assistance from his son John Jacobs, who essentially took over the mare's training during her championship season because of his father's illness. Following her racing career, Straight Deal passed to the ownership of Hirsch Jacobs' daughter Patrice, who owned Harbor View Farm with her husband Louis Wolfson. Straight Deal died at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky in 1982 and was buried on land that later became part of Green Gates Farm.
