Although he is best remembered now as the sire of the great American race mare Zenyatta and the spectacular Australian race mare Winx, Street Cry was a first-class racehorse in his own right whose victories included the 2002 Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1). He was not able to sustain the level he achieved with a sensational start at stud but was nevertheless a good stallion who succeeded in extending the Machiavellian branch of the Mr. Prospector male line through his sons.

Assessments
Rated at 122 pounds on the Experimental Free Handicap for American juveniles of 2000, 4 pounds below champion Macho Uno and fifth overall.
Rated at 130 pounds on Timeform's 2002 assessments for horses aged 4 and up, 3 pounds below highweighted Azeri (the American Horse of the Year).
Rated at 124 pounds on the 2002 International Classifications in the Mile and Intermediate categories, 4 pounds below highweighted Rock of Gibraltar (the European Horse of the Year; a 3-year-old), who also topped the Mile category, and 2 pounds below European champion older male Grandera, rated highest in the Intermediate category.
As an individual
A strongly made dark bay or brown horse standing 16.1 hands, Street Cry had an excellent shoulder, a short back and strong hindquarters with good muscling extending into his gaskins. He could be faulted for having hocks out behind him and was slightly short-legged for his height. He was an honest horse on the track, consistently giving his best, and was considered a gentleman around the stable. He retired from racing in September 2002 due to persistent inflammation in his right fore ankle; an injury in this same joint had previously knocked him out of the 2001 Kentucky Derby (USA-G1) and kept him on the sidelines for seven months as a 3-year-old.
As a stallion
Street Cry's progeny were known for being tough, durable and willing, and they often possessed a strong turn of foot. According to statistics compiled by The Jockey Club, Street Cry sired 1109 winners (56.3%) and 133 stakes winners (6.8%) from 1970 named foals.

He was ridden to his win in the Dubai World Cup by Jerry Bailey.

He was humanely destroyed in Australia in 2014 due to a neurological condition and did not cover any mares during that year's Southern Hemisphere season due to severe lameness caused by the disorder that necessitated his euthanization.
