Not too many mares in any country manage to produce both a Classic winner and a Horse of the Year among their foals, but Surf Point joined that elite club when her son Puerto Escondido was named Horse of the Year in Argentina, six years after his half brother Lange had captured the Gran Premio Nacional (Argentine Derby). She died in 2022 but left several daughters who should have every opportunity to continue her family at the top level.

Connections
Bred by Haras La Quebrada, Surf Point raced for Caballeriza Moffly. As a broodmare, she was owned by Haras El Mallin. Her last foal, the Hurricane Cat colt Tom Blake, was foaled in 2019. She died in June 2022.
Pedigree notes
Surf Point is inbred 3x4 to 1964 Canadian Horse of the Year and American champion 3-year-old male Northern Dancer, a great sire of sires. She is also inbred 5x5 to Northern Dancer’s maternal granddam, Almahmoud. She is out of Group 2-placed Argentine listed stakes winner Surfing (by Southern Halo). Surfing, in turn, is out of Surface (by Logical), whose full sister Searching is the second dam of two-time Brazilian champion sprinter Pitu da Guanabara and the third dam of multiple Argentine Group 2 winner Agasias. Surface is also a half sister to 1983 Premio Pedro Goenaga (ARG-G2) winner Surefire (by Salt Marsh).
Sun Cry, the dam of Surface and her siblings, is by the stakes-winning Beau Max horse Solazo. She is a full sister to Sun Song, dam of two-time Gran Premio Maipú (ARG-G1) winner Sumatra (by Farnesio), and is out of Culminant (by the good Eight Thirty stallion Make Tracks), a full sister to 1965 Argentine champion sprinter Make Money. Culminant is also a full sister to Alamosa II, second dam of Grade 2 winner HastyTudor.
Culminant, in turn, is out of Secreta (by Embrujo), whose half sister Sans Doute (by Seductor) produced 1962 Polla de Potrancas (Argentine One Thousand Guineas) winner Tacha (by Tatán). Secreta and Sans Doute are out of Sospetta (Rustom Pasha x Sospecha, by Polemarch), a half sister to 1949 Saratoga Cup winner Doubtless II (by Cute Eyes), and trace back in tail-female to the English import Venusta, one of the great foundation mares of early Argentine breeding.
