Tamerett was reasonably sound and durable but never graduated beyond the allowance ranks and spent part of her racing career in claimers. Nonetheless, she had a good enough pedigree to earn reasonable opportunities at stud, and she made the most of them. The dam of five stakes winners, she continues to have a significant influence on pedigrees through her grandson Gone West and her female descendants.
Race record
35 starts, 4 wins, 6 seconds, 10 thirds, US$25,415
As an individual
A dark bay or brown mare, Tamerett had a rather spotty produce record in regard to live foal production as she was reported barren four times in 1968-1985, slipped once and gave birth to a foal that soon died in 1976.
As a producer
Designated as a Reine-de-Course by pedigree analyst Ellen Parker, Tamerett produced 8 named foals, of which 6 started; all six were winners, and all eight are of some significance. Her foals are as follow:
Connections
Tamerett was bred in Kentucky by Bertram Linder. She was purchased for US$10,000 by Mrs. James P. Mills at the 1963 Saratoga yearling sale but was claimed away in a US$7,500 claiming race as a juvenile. She was eventually acquired by Gedney Farms Breeding, Inc., and produced her first four foals for that concern. Prior to the birth of Known Fact, she was acquired privately by Dr. William O. Reed, who bred the remainder of her foals. She died as a pensioner at Reed's Mare Haven Farm near Lexington in 1995.
Pedigree notes
Tamerett is inbred 5x5x5 to the great French-based matron Plucky Liege, 5x5 to another great European matron in Selene, and 5x5 to two-time leading English sire Phalaris. She is the product of a mating between two inbred parents, as her sire Tim Tam is inbred 3x3 to Bull Dog while her dam is inbred 4x4 to the notable stamina influence Son-in-Law. She is a half sister to Atan (by Native Dancer), who was said to have shown brilliant ability in training but broke down after winning his only start and is notable only as the sire of the Group 1 winner and fine sire Sharpen Up. Tamerett is also a half sister to Matched'n Lost (by Citation), dam of stakes winner Matchpenny (by Yu Wipi) and second dam of stakes winners Truly Lost and Thruppenny Bit.
Tamerett's dam Mixed Marriage is out of the Tehran mare Persian Maid and is a half sister to multiple English stakes winner Birthday Present (by Precipitation) and to Book of Verse (by One Count), dam of the good stakes winner Obeah (by Cyane). Obeah, in turn, produced two-time American champion filly Go for Wand (by Deputy Minister), multiple Grade 2 winner Dance Spell (by Northern Dancer), Grade 2 winner Discorama (by Northern Dancer), stakes winner Black Powder (by Northern Dancer), and the good Mid-Atlantic regional sire Carnivalay (by Northern Dancer), while her half sister Ameriverse (by Amerigo) produced Grade 2 winner Garden Verse (by Cyane) and stakes winner Fuego Seguro (by Apalachee). Book of Verse is also the dam of Grade 2 winner Targa (by Cannonade), dam in turn of multiple Grade 3 winner Mamselle Bebette (by Copelan). Other notable members of Persian Maid's family include 2011 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year Oatsee, 1982 Argentine Mare of the Year Miss Keat, 1974 Oaks d'Italia (ITY-G1) winner Red Girl and 1991 Matron Stakes (USA-G1) winner Anh Duong.
