While The Garden Club probably could have won a small stakes race on a lesser circuit, she was no more than an allowance filly on the tough New York circuit. As Ogden Phipps had plenty of other granddaughters and great-granddaughters of Striking with equal or better racing ability, The Garden Club was culled from the Phipps broodmare band. The Garden Club passed through several owners' hands, but her greatest beneficiary was William Farish III of Lane's End Farm, who bred three stakes winners including the excellent broodmare Up the Flagpole from her.
Race record

Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, The Garden Club was bred by Ogden Phipps. She began her broodmare career as the property of Peggy C. Neloy, who bred the mare's first foal, Exotic Garden. She was then acquired by William Farish III, who bred three foals from her before she passed to the ownership of Roy Bowen. Bowen then consigned The Garden Club to the 1975 Florida October mixed sale but bought her back for US$45,000. Farish reacquired the mare prior to the birth of her 1978 foal, Up the Flagpole, and bred the rest of The Garden Club's foals. She produced her last foal, Hidden Garden, in 1986.
Pedigree notes
The Garden Club is inbred 5x5x5 to English and French champion sire Pharos, 5x5 to Pharos' sire Phalaris and 5x5 to two-time English champion sire Son-in-Law. She is a half sister to the stakes-winning colts Plastic Surgeon (by Dr. Fager) and Sartorialy Perfect (by Gallant Romeo) and to Reasonable Choice (by Hail to Reason), a stakes-winning steeplechaser in France. She is also a half sister to Court Circular (by Ambiorix), dam of multiple Irish stakes winner Ash Creek (by Manado) and Belgian stakes winner High Court (by Hill Rise) and second dam of New Zealand Group 3 winner Sovereign Court; to Best Dressed List (by Buckpasser), dam of Irish stakes winner North Verdict (by Far North); to Fashionable Trick (by Buckpasser), dam of juvenile stakes winner House Speaker (by King Pellinore) and second dam of multiple Grade 3 winner Semoran; and to A Streaker (by Dr. Fager), dam of listed stakes winner Capture Him (by Mr. Prospector).
Fashion Verdict, the dam of The Garden Club, won the 1962 Adirondack Stakes. Produced from the important matron So Chic (by Nasrullah), she is a full sister to Dress Uniform, dam of French Group 3 winner Diffusion (by Habitat). She is also a half sister to 1968 Garden State Stakes winner Beau Brummel (by Round Table), to French Group 3 winner Pas de Deux (by Nijinsky II), to dual Classic-placed Dapper Dan (by Ribot) and to Flirting Lady (by Swaps), dam of Grade 2 winner Modred (by Round Table).
