The Squaw II led an adventurous life as a young mare. Foaled in France, she was seized by the occupying Germans in 1940 and sent to Germany. Her level of class is difficult to determine accurately given the wartime conditions she raced under, but she did win two of her four starts before being retired to the paddocks. She produced two German-bred foals before being recovered and restored to the estate of her breeder, Joseph Widener, in 1946. After being sent to the United States in 1947, she produced three high-class race mares, two of them of Classic standard, who etched her name into a place of honor in American breeding.

Connections
The Squaw II was bred by Joseph Widener. After being seized by the Germans during World War II, she was restored to Widener's estate and imported to the United States. From there, she passed into the hands of the exiled Georgian prince Dmitri Djordjadze (or Jorjadze). Following Prince Djordjadze's divorce from his American-born wife, Audrey Emery, The Squaw II became part of Emery's Plain Dealing Stud.
Pedigree notes
The Squaw II is inbred 4x4 to 1896 English champion 3-year-old filly Canterbury Pilgrim and 5x5 to Derby Stakes winner and three-time English champion sire Galopin. She is a half sister to 1947 Grand Prix de Paris winner Avenger (by 1938 French champion older male Victrix) and to Dynamite II (by 1943 Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner Dogat), second dam of 1959 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes winner Toluene.
The Squaw II's dam Minnewaska (by Blandford) is out of 1926 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Nipisiquit (by two-time Eclipse Stakes winner Buchan), also the dam of the good English stakes winner Raymond (by 1918 English Triple Crown winner Gainsborough). Nipisiquit, in turn, was produced from 1918 Falmouth Stakes winner Herself (by 1910 Two Thousand Guineas winner Neil Gow out of the 1901 One Thousand Guineas stakes winner, Aida), whose other foals include the 1933 Oaks Stakes winner, Chatelaine (by Phalaris).
