The outstanding filly in a year in which the better 3-year-old fillies kept beating up on each other, Tiffany Lass was a granddaughter of 1963 Kentucky Oaks winner Sally Ship and a still better runner. Undefeated as a 3-year-old, she had only brief campaigns at 2 and 4. Unfortunately, she had more than an Oaks victory in common with Sally Ship; she was also a disappointing broodmare considering her own racing ability and pedigree.

Connections
Foaled at Stone Farm in Kentucky, Tiffany Lass was bred and owned by Aaron Jones (who had also owned her sire, her dam, and her granddam at some point in their lives) and was trained by Laz Barrera. She was ridden to her Kentucky Oaks score by Gary Stevens. After selling for US$2.3 million at the 1990 Keeneland November mixed sale, she was exported to Japan in 1990.
Pedigree notes
Tiffany Lass is inbred 4x4 to five-time American champion sire Nasrullah (also a champion sire in England/Ireland) and 5x5x5 to Nasrullah's sire Nearco, a two-time English/Irish champion sire. She is a full sister to listed stakes winner Bold Archon and a half sister to 1979 Swaps Stakes (USA-G1) winner Valdez (by Exclusive Native). Tiffany Lass and her siblings were produced by the unraced Graustark mare Sally Stark, a daughter of 1963 Kentucky Oaks winner Sally Ship (by Turn-to). Sally Ship is a half sister to 1960 Knickerbocker Handicap winner Quiz Star (by Dark Star), 1966 Nassau County Stakes winner Pluck (by Double Jay), and multiple stakes winner Good Fight (by Armageddon). Sally Ship and her siblings, in turn, are out of the English import Nut Brown Maid (by Nasrullah), whose stakes-placed half sister Las Quevas (by Anwar) is the dam of 1970 Gran Criterium winner Lascro (by Crocket), who trained on to become an Italian Group 3 winner.
