Although Tosmah was a daughter of the staying Tim Tam and could stretch her speed over 9 furlongs, she was more a scion of her speedy female family and was better over shorter trips, taking on all ages and both sexes with equal aplomb. Her prowess led to her earning three championship titles, but her short producing career was essentially wasted due to repeated matings with her owner's indifferent stallions.

Assessments
Co-highweighted with co-champion Castle Forbes among fillies at 115 pounds on the Experimental Free Handicap for American juveniles of 1963.
Highweighed at 130 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American 3-year-old fillies of 1964, 2 pounds above second-rated Blue Norther.
Rated at 133 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American sprinters of 1965, 1 pound below champion Affectionately (who also shared honors in the handicap female division).
Rated at 117 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American older females of 1966, 9 pounds below co-highweights Open Fire (the official champion) and Summer Scandal.
As an individual
A broad, stocky bay mare standing 15.3 hands at the end of her 3-year-old season, Tosmah was correct in front but was sickle-hocked behind. She tended to carry her head high. Her stride was short and quick and she was a fast horse at the break. She was a confirmed front runner and resented rating. She was indifferent as to track condition. She was a good doer and had an excellent constitution. She had a rather difficult disposition.
As a producer
Although she was bred regularly through the age of 23, Tosmah produced only four foals, and three of them were by the stud failures Convex (a good stakes winner by Vertex) and Royal I. J. (a winning son of Royal Charger). Her daughter by the latter stallion, La Guidecca, won the 1973 New Jersey Futurity but produced nothing of any significance, and Tosmah's other producing daughter, the winner Santa Vittoria (by Convex), was also a disappointing broodmare.
Connections
Tosmah was bred by Eugene Mori. She was owned by Anthony Imbesi, who paid a reported US$100,000 for her in a private transaction, and raced in the colors of Imbesi's Briardale Farm. She was trained by Joe Mergler. She was pensioned after the 1983 breeding season. She died in 1991 and was buried at Briardale Farm, New Jersey.
Pedigree notes
Tosmah is inbred 4x3 to the important sire Pharamond II and 5x5 to 1929 American champion sire Chicle. She is a half sister to 1974 United Nations Handicap (USA-G1) winner and two-time American champion sire Halo (by Hail to Reason); to Maribeau (by Ribot), winner of the 1965 Fountain of Youth Stakes; and to Fathers Image (by Swaps), a minor stakes winner. Tosmah is also a half sister to Queen Sucree (by Ribot), dam of 1974 Kentucky Derby (USA-G1) winner Cannonade and multiple Grade 3 winner Circle Home (both by Bold Bidder) and second dam of Grade 1 winners Stephan's Odyssey and Lotka, Australian Group 2 winner Rasheek, and English Group 3 winner Burooj. Another half sister to Halo, Perfecta (by Swaps), is the second dam of 1983 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (FR-G1) winner L'Emigrant and French Group 2 winner Salpinx. In addition, La Dame du Lac, a Round Table half sister to Tosmah, produced five stakes winners including Irish Group 3 winners Lake Como and Single Combat (both by Nijinsky II) and is the second dam of two-time American champion turf female Flawlessly, 2001 Prix Saint-Alary (FR-G1) winner Nadia, multiple English Group 2 winner Zindabad, and Grade 3 winner Perfect.
Tosmah's dam Cosmah won the 1955 Astarita Stakes and is the 1974 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year. Produced from the stakes-winning Mahmoud mare Almahmoud, she is a half sister to Canadian stakes winner Folk Dancer (by Native Dancer) and to stakes-placed Natalma (by Native Dancer), dam of four stakes winners including the multiple Classic winner and great sire Northern Dancer (by Nearctic) and a great foundation mare in her own right. Another half sister to Cosmah, Bubbling Beauty (by Hasty Road), produced 1977 Prix Ganay (FR-G1) winner and 1986 French champion sire Arctic Tern (by Sea-Bird).
