The last daughter of the modern foundation mare Iltis, Treasure Chest was overshadowed during her lifetime by her older full sister My Dear Girl, a champion on the track and a remarkable producer. Nonetheless, Treasure Chest was a nice runner and broodmare whose daughters and granddaughters carried her Florida bloodlines to the heights of European racing and breeding.

Connections
Foaled in Florida, Treasure Chest was bred by Ocala Stud Farm. She sold for a sale-record US$70,000 at the 1964 Florida Breeders' Sales Hialeah sale of 2-year-olds in training. The buyer was David Shaer, who raced her under the training of J. Pierce Jr. and bred one foal from her before selling Treasure Chest back to Ocala Stud for a price variously reported at US$225,000 or US$235,000 in the fall of 1968. The mare changed hands again in another private sale shortly afterward, becoming the property of Virginia-based Keswick Farm (Mrs. E. H. Augustus). Treasure Chest produced her last foal, the stakes-placed Al Nasr filly Pelf, in 1984, and there is no report of her afterward.
Pedigree notes
Treasure Chest is outcrossed through five generations. She is a full sister to My Dear Girl, the American champion 3-year-old filly of 1959. A remarkable blue hen, My Dear Girl produced seven stakes winners headed by 1967 Florida Derby and 1968 Metropolitan Handicap winner In Reality (by Intentionally), an excellent sire who begot 83 stakes winners from 563 named foals. Also the dam of 1980 Flamingo Stakes (USA-G1) winner Superbity (by Groshawk) and multiple Grade 3 winner Return to Reality (by Intentionally), My Dear Girl is the second dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Dr. Carter and French Group 2 winner Albarahin. The next dam in the tail-female lineage is We Hail (by Balladier), a stakes-placed full sister to stakes winner Bryan Station. Produced from the winning Orpiment mare Clonaslee, We Hail is also a half sister to stakes winner Bold Lover (by Black Toney) and to Blessed Again (by Blue Larkspur), also a stakes winner and the dam of juvenile stakes winner Gee Whiz (by Johnstown); the second dam of two-time American champion sprinter Decathlon, 1961 Hollywood Gold Cup winner Prince Blessed, 1956 Sheridan Stakes winner Summer Savory and 1955 Adirondack Stakes and Schuylerville Stakes winner Dark Charger; and the third dam of Grade 3 winner Ziba Blue.
