Family 12-g
A $1,500 bargain-basement yearling who became a modestly-priced 2-year-old-in-training purchase, Trinniberg turned out to be a speedy horse who won four graded stakes as a 3-year-old of 2012. Kept strictly to sprinting after running 17th of 20 in the Kentucky Derby (USA-G1), he won his American sprint championship on the strength of a victory over an excellent field of top speedsters in the 2012 Xpressbet Breeders’ Cup Spring (USA-G1). Unfortunately, he failed to recover his earlier form after a disastrous attempt at Dubai’s Golden Shaheen (UAE-G1) in March 2013. He was never fashionable as a sire but had some success in Uruguay before dying at the age of 16.

Trinniberg was honored as the 2021 Uruguayan “Stallion of the Year.” As of August 12, 2025, records compiled by The Jockey Club credit Trinniberg with seven stakes winners. His most notable runner is Uruguayan champion juvenile filly Nopaya Naa.

Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Trinniberg was bred by J M Stables, Inc., and was sold for US$1,500 through the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October sale (KY). He went back through the sales ring as a pinhook at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales April sale of 2-year-olds in training and was purchased by Shivananda Parbhoo for his Shivananda Racing stable for US$21,000. The colt was trained by Parbhoo’s father, Bisnath Parboo, or by Parbhoo himself throughout his racing career. Trinniberg entered stud in 2014 at Rockridge Stud in NY and shuttled to Haras Ponta Pora in Brazil in 2015, In 2017, he began shuttling to Uruguay and in May 2019 was sold to a consortium of South American breeders and transferred permanently to Uruguay. He stood at Haras La Concordia and later at Haras San Miguel Queguay. He died in Uruguay on August 5, 2025.
Pedigree notes
Sired by 2007 Woody Stevens Breeders’ Cup Handicap (USA-G2) winner Teuflesberg (by Johannesburg), Triinniberg is inbred 5x4x4 to two-time American champion sire Mr. Prospector. He is by far the best of six winners produced from stakes-placed Bella Dorato, whose sire Goldminers Gold (by Crafty Prospector) was a multiple listed stakes winner over 6 furlongs.
Bella Dorato is one of 11 winners (four of them stakes-placed) produced from Witchkin, a winning daughter of 1970 Futurity Stakes winner Salem (by Cyane). Witchkin, in turn, is out of the winner Magic Acorn (by 1974 Paumonok Handicap, USA-G3, winner Torsion, by Never Bend) who, in turn, is out of the Dunce mare White Oak Run, a half sister to juvenile stakes winner Spouting Horn (by Misty Flight). Trinniberg is much the best horse produced in his direct female line since 1934 American champion 3-year-old male Cavalcade, who was produced from Trinniberg’s eighth dam, Hastily (by Hurry On).

Fun facts
- Trinniberg’s name came from combining Trinidad (the southernmost island of the Caribbean and the native home of the Parbhoo family) with the name of his sire, Teuflesberg.
- Trinniberg was easy to spot in training as he typically wore some combination of red and yellow gear. During pre-Derby training, he wore a yellow bridle, yellow shadow roll, and yellow bandages with red reins, red strips added to his bandages, and a red pompon in his forelock.
