Turko’s Turn was a stakes winner on the track but one of relatively modest ability as her black type was earned on the California fair circuit. She foaled a far better horse than herself in Point Given, the 2001 American Horse of the Year, and was voted Kentucky Broodmare of the Year honors based on his exploits. Like several other mares named Broodmare of the Year based on a single excellent horse early in their producing careers, she failed to come through with any other runners of significance, and only one of her daughters has demonstrated significant merit as a broodmare thus far.
Race record

Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Turko’s Turn was bred and owned by John and Clara Dolan and by Bill and Joyce Sexton. She was trained by Kathy Walsh. Following her racing career, she sold for US$130,000 to The Thoroughbred Corporation at the 1996 Keeneland November sale, in foal to Dehere. In 1998, after producing Point Given, she returned to the same venue and sold for US$160,000, in foal to Hennessy. After producing two named foals for Ironwood Farm and another for The Thoroughbred Corporation, she passed through the Keeneland November ring a third time in 2003, in foal to Thunder Gulch, and brought US$2 million. This time the buyer was ClassicStar. From there she passed to the hands of MacDonald Stables and then to Woodford Thoroughbreds, which owned her for the rest of her producing career.
Pedigree notes
Turko’s Turn is outcrossed through five generations. She is a half sister to listed stakes winner U R Unforgetable (by Affirmed) and to American Jewel (by Quiet American), dam of listed stakes winner Ahsugahnow (by Forestry).
Turbo Launch, the dam of Turko’s Turn, had her finest moment on the track when she defeated future Grade 1 winner Lost Kitty in the 1987 Canterbury Debutante Stakes. She is a half sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Dignitas (by In Reality) and to multiple listed stakes winner Explosive Girl (by Explodent), The siblings are out of the winner David’s Tobin, whose sire Tobin Bronze was a three-time champion in Australia and placed in several important American turf races after his importation.
David’s Tobin is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Magnificent Dawn and to Tobin’s Love, dam of Grade 3 winner Tobin’s Rose (by Montmartre). The siblings were produced from Restless Love, a winning daughter of 1958 Arlington Futurity and Washington Park Futurity winner Restless Wind.
