While Starrer finished some 11 lengths ahead of her nearest rival in the 2001 Coaching Club American Oaks (USA-G1), she did so without the services of jockey Chris McCarron, who had been unseated at the break. The official winner of the race was Tweedside, who turned in one of the best performances of her career in finishing almost eight lengths ahead of multiple Grade 1 winner Exogenous. Tweedside later won distance races on turf and in the slop. As is often the case with extremely stamina-laden individuals in American racing, Tweedside was not a success in the paddocks.

Assessments
Highweighted on the International Classifications of 2001 for 3-year-old dirt fillies at 115 pounds over 2200m–2400m.
As an individual
A bay mare, Tweedside had plenty of stamina but was probably better on turf than on dirt, though she handled sloppy tracks well. She lacked a significant turn of foot and preferred to stalk from just off the pace when racing.
As a producer
Tweedside produced six foals. All six were starters and three won. As of October 2022, none of her foals have achieved anything of note as racers or producers.
Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Tweedside was bred by Dr. and Mrs. Rober Smiser West in partnership with Mr. and Mrs. Mackenzie Miller. She was owned by Eugene and Laura Melnyk, who purchased the filly for US$100,000 from the 1999 Keeneland September yearling sale. She was trained by Todd Pletcher. Tweedside sold for US$75,000 at the 2011 Keeneland November mixed sale, in foal to Speightstown, but failed to produce a live foal after being exported to Saudi Arabia.
Pedigree notes
Tweedside is inbred 5x4 to Nashua. She is a half sister to 1992 Saratoga Special (USA-G2) winner Tactical Advantage (by Forty Niner) and to multiple Grade 2 winner Evanescent (by Northern Jove).
Twitchet, the dam of Tweedside, is a half sister to listed stakes winner Rain on My Parade (by Little Current), second dam of three stakes winners, and to Wild Zuca (by Ferdinand), dam of multiple Brazilian Group 2 winner Nice Bet (by Dubai Dust). The sisters' dam Processional (by Reviewer) is a half sister to 1966 Acorn Stakes winner Marking Time (by To Market), whose daughter Relaxing (by Buckpasser) was the American champion older female of 1981. The 1989 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year, Relaxing produced 1988 American champion 2-year-old male and 1989 Belmont Stakes (USA-G1) winner Easy Goer (by Alydar), 1988 Ballerina Stakes (USA-G1) winner Cadillacing (by Alydar), and 1992 Go for Wand Stakes (USA-G1) winner Easy Now (by Danzig). Cadillacing, in turn, is the dam of 1992 Futurity Stakes (USA-G1) winner Strolling Along (by Danzig); of Grade 2 winner Cat Cay (by Pleasant Colony), dam of Grade 2 winner Abaco (by Giant's Causeway); and of 2009 Argentine Stallion of the Year Easing Along (by Storm Cat)
Processional and Marking Time are out of the Counterpoint mare Allemande, a half sister to five stakes winners including 1946 American champion 3-year-old filly Bridal Flower (by Challenger II) and National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame member Searching (by War Admiral), a great matron in her own right. The next dam in Tweedside's tail-female line is 1939 Selima Stakes winner Big Hurry (by Black Toney), a full sister to two-time American champion Bimelech and 1935 American champion 3-year-old filly Black Helen and the head of a major branch of the family of La Troienne.
Books and media
Tweedside is profiled in Chapter 13 of Avalyn Hunter's American Classic Pedigrees 1914-2002 (2003, Eclipse Press).

Fun facts
- By winning the 2001 Coaching Club American Oaks (USA-G1), Tweedside gave her sire Thunder Gulch a rare double in the Belmont Stakes (USA-G1) and its filly counterpart, as Thunder Gulch's son Point Given won the 2001 Belmont. The only stallion that had previously achieved the double was Man o' War, who did it with American Flag (Belmont) and Florence Nightingale (CCA Oaks) in 1925 and with Crusader (Belmont) and Edith Cavell (CCA Oaks) in 1926. Through 2023, no other stallions have accomplished this feat.
