A stakes winner at 2, Voladora was a 6-1 outsider when she won the 1895 Kentucky Oaks, and with good reason as she had been badly beaten in her previous two starts. Even though her Oaks field was acknowledged to be a weak one, her sudden reversal of form was hard to explain, but the reasons for it will never be known as she died just nine days after her Oaks triumph.

As an individual
A bay mare, Voladora was said to have been on the small side.
Connections
Voladora was bred by Nick Finzer at his Glen Agnes Stud and was raced by Finzer under the name of his Pastime Stable. She was trained by Arthur Newsum. She managed to escape from her stable at Latonia early on the morning of May 27, 1895, ran into an iron fence during the chase to recapture her, and had to be humanely destroyed due to her injuries.
Pedigree notes
Voladora is inbred 5x5x5 to eight-time American champion sire Glencoe. Sired by 1885 American Derby winner Volante, she is a full sister to Volma, dam of stakes winner Woolma (by Woolsthorpe). She is also a half sister to Ethelbert (by Eothen), winner of the 1899 Lawrence Realization and 1900 Metropolitan Handicap, and to the stakes winner Prince Hamburg (by Hamburg).
Maori, the dam of Voladora, was a speedy mare who proved able to run a sub-1:40 mile in a day when this was considered a rare feat. She is a daughter of the fine French racer Poulet and is a full sister to Limasol, who won the Oaks Stakes in England in 1897. She is also a half sister to Cypria (by Carlton), winner of the 1893 Cesarewitch Stakes.
Maori and her siblings were produced from the King Tom mare Queen of Cyprus, whose dam Cypriana (by Epirus) is a half sister to 1852 Oaks Stakes winner Songstress (by Birdcatcher) and to Miss Horewood (by The Saddler), dam of 1850 Two Thousand Guineas winner Pitsford (by Epirus). The next dam in the tail-female line. Cyprian (by Partisan), won the 1836 Oaks Stakes.
