Whipper-in was no more than a moderate handicapper in England, but he was one of several sons of Hermit to have a beneficial influence on Argentine breeding. He stood alongside six-time Argentine champion sire Phoenix at Haras Las Rosas but in spite of the competition earned a pair of Argentine sire championships of his own. He was particularly noted as a sire of top fillies.
