Wing Ting was campaigned by an owner who did not believe in her eating the bread of idleness, for she made 23 starts in March through July of 1906 before pulling up lame out of a race at Fort Erie. She reappeared at Hot Springs in February 1907 and by the time the Kentucky Oaks ran on June 8 had already made another 15 starts, becoming the first Oaks winner to have competed in winter racing. She was unplaced in five consecutive races after the Oaks before finally getting a rest, and after coming back in November lost again before finally finding the winner's circle on December 5 at the Emeryville track near Oakland, California. By the end of the year, suspicion was growing that the filly's form was being manipulated for betting purposes, but nothing was proven. Wing Ting's 4-year-old season ended on May 29, 1908, when she came out of a race lame and her retirement to stud was announced, but after two years as a broodmare, she was back in training at age 7. She finally retired for good at the end of that season and disappeared from the records after the birth of her 1916 foal.

As an individual
A good-sized bay mare with a deep girth, Wing Ting was short-coupled with powerful hindquarters, and short cannons. A photograph taken of her following her Kentucky Oaks victory suggests that she was slightly sickle-hocked. Her racing was hampered by her having developed a fear of the web barrier, which often led to her breaking slowly.
As a producer
Wing Ting produced three named foals. Her only important foal was her daughter Mary Belle (by Ballot), dam of 1934 Washington Park Handicap winner Isaiah (by High Time) and 1927 Latonia Championship Stakes winner Rolled Stocking (by Pennant) and second dam of the good steeplechaser Invader.
Connections
Wing Ting was bred by J. N. Camden, Jr. She was owned by Joseph S. Hawkins & Co. and was trained by Joseph Hawkins. She was ridden to her Kentucky Oaks victory by Jimmy Lee. Her last foal was the Peter Quince filly Ting Wing, foaled in 1916.
Pedigree notes
Wing Ting is outcrossed through five generations. She is a half sister to 1906 Clark Handicap winner Hyperion II (by Mazagan) and 1910 Saranac Handicap winner Martinez (by Mazagan).
Wing Ting's dam Van-a-Clar (by 1883 Travers Stakes winner Barnes) is out of Clipsa, a daughter of 1873 Belmont Stakes winner Springbok and the Eclipse mare Eclipsa. Eclipsa, in turn, was produced from the Sovereign mare Avis, whose dam Thrush was sired by five-time American champion sire Leviathan.
