Salvator, the sire of Sorrente, won the 1875 Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) and Grand Prix de Paris and was the best French 3-year-old of his crop.
Sorbe (by the good French speed sire Plutus), the dam of Sorrente, also produced La Souveraine (by Fontainebleau), dam of 1905 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French One Thousand Guineas) winner Princesse Lointaine (by Launay). In addition, Sorbe produced Morphine (by Stuart), who is the third dam of 1927 Rumanian Derby winner Maltezi.
