About the Author
I'm Avalyn Hunter, author of American Classic Pedigrees 1914-2002. This book, published by Eclipse Press in 2003, is a look at the pedigrees, history and breeding influence of the winners of the American Triple Crown races and their filly equivalents. I am also the author of the Eclipse Press titles The Kingmaker: How Northern Dancer Founded a Racing Dynasty and Gold Rush: How Mr. Prospector Became Racing's Billion-Dollar Sire. In addition, I've contributed to five other books and written numerous articles on pedigrees and racing history for The Blood-Horse, Thoroughbred Times, Louisiana Horse, New York Breeder, Market Watch and Owner-Breeder International.
I am grateful for the contributions of the following, who have generously shared information and/or pictures:
Dale Wyatt is a Thoroughbred historian and a collector of racing books and memorabilia. His collection of photographs includes many of the greats of North American racing in the early and middle 20th century.
Jessica Morgan is an equine photographer who frequently covers Kentucky racing as well as taking candid shots on the farms and at sales.
Mike Sekulic is a longtime California racing fan and photographer who has contributed both pictures and information about some of the horses who were stars in Southern California.
Steve Haskin is an Eclipse Award-winning horse racing journalist and an enthusiastic hobby photographer of the great horses he has covered.
Tim Stephansen is a racing fan and photographer.
Joanna McManus is a veterinarian and longtime racing fan.
