Perhaps the least-remembered of the great broodmare Marguerite's four notable sons, Foxbrough got his career off to an excellent start by earning laurels as the best English-raced juvenile of 1938. Unfortunately, he failed to progress as expected from 2 to 3 and had pretty much been written off by the time he was sent back to the United States as a 4-year-old. He failed to win at 3 and 4 but came back as a 5-year-old to be a useful handicapper. He was a complete failure at stud.

Honors
English champion 2-year-old male (1938)
Assessments
Rated at 133 pounds on the Free Handicap for English juveniles of 1938, 4 pounds above second-ranked Blue Peter.
Ranked fifth among American older males of 1941 by The Blood-Horse.
As an individual
A handsome, rangy bay horse, Foxbrough stood over 16 hands and had length and scope reminiscent of his older brother Gallant Fox. Photographic evidence suggests that he was lighter-boned than Gallant Fox and may have been tied in below the knee and sickle-hocked. His head had a slightly convex profile. Like his brother, he had a tendency to loaf when on the lead.
As a stallion
According to Jockey Club records, Foxbrough sired 7 winners (50.0%) and 0 stakes winners (0%) from 14 named foals.
Connections
Foaled at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky, Foxbrough was bred and owned by Belair Stud (William Woodward, Sr.). He was trained by Captain Cecil Boyd-Rochfort in England and by James “Sunny Jim” Fitzsimmons in the United States. In 1943 Woodward gave Foxbrough as a gift to Manuel Avila Camacho, president of Mexico and the owner of his own stud and stable in that country. However, Foxbrough apparently remained at stud in the United States, where he died in 1950.
Pedigree notes
Foxbrough is inbred 5x4 to Bend Or and 4x5 to St. Simon. He is a full brother to 1930 American Triple Crown winner Gallant Fox and the good stakes winner Fighting Fox and a half brother to 1928 Travers Midsummer Derby winner Petee-Wrack (by Wrack). He is also a full brother to multiple stakes producers Maraschino, Marigal, and Marguery. Fighting Fox's dam Marguerite is a half sister to the good stakes winner Cloudland (by Wrack) and is out of Fairy Ray (by Radium), a half sister to three English stakes winners.
