Family 11
The leading son of successful California sire Fleet Nasrullah at the time of his retirement, Gummo was consistently rated 13 to14 pounds below the best of his crop. He was durable enough to make 21 starts as a 3-year-old but was never the same at 4 and 5, suggesting that his hard campaign took a toll on him. Sent to stud in California, he became a perennial leading sire in the state and succeeded in handing on his branch of the Nasrullah male line to his son Flying Paster.

Gummo entered stud at Three Rings Ranch near Beaumont, California, later moving to Cardiff Stud Farm in 1975. He died of an apparent heart attack in October 1982.
Pedigree notes
Gummo is inbred 4x4 to Bull Dog and 4x5 to Pharos and Blenheim II. Gummo is a full brother to 1966 Hollywood Oaks winner Spearfish, dam of 1972 Irish One Thousand Guineas (IRE-G1) winner Gaily (by Sir Gaylord; dam of French Group III winner Gay Hellene and second dam of six stakes winners including Canadian Grade 2 winner Moon Solitaire and English Group 3 winner Germano). Spearfish also produced 1973 Carter Handicap (USA-G2) winner and good sire King's Bishop (by Round Table); 1984 Royal Whip Stakes (IRE-G3) winner Empire Glory (by Nijinsky II); stakes winner Crown the Prince (by Damascus); and Sainte Croix (by Nijinsky II), dam of multiple stakes winner Saintry (by Groom Dancer) and Norwegian stakes winner Royal Crusade (by Diesis) and second dam of Grade 2-placed listed stakes winner Trieste's Honor.
Alabama Gal, the dam of Gummo, was a tiny daughter of Determine who never advanced beyond cheap claiming races as a racehorse. Her only other produce of any note was Imbrama (by Imbros), second dam of multiple Indian stakes winner Victory Zone. Alabama Lass was produced from the Priam II mare Trojan Lass, who produced seven winners from seven starters but nothing of any class. The dam of Trojan Lass, the Bull Dog mare Rompers, is a full sister to 1936 Alabama Stakes winner Floradora, dam of 1945 American champion juvenile male Star Pilot (by Sickle).
