One of the more forgettable winners of the Kentucky Oaks, Lori-El had only one other stakes win to her credit but was nonetheless one of the better bargains in Oaks history as she cost but US$700 as a yearling. She was not a notable broodmare in a relatively short producing career.

Connections
Lori-El was bred by F. E. Morancy, who purchased her dam for US$1,600 from the 1953 Keeneland November mixed sale with Lori-El in utero. Sold for US$700 as a yearling at the 1955 Keeneland sale, Lori-El raced for Michael Soto and Al Berke. She was trained by Michael Soto and was ridden to her Kentucky Oaks win by L. C. Cook. Following her racing career, she passed to the ownership of Nelson Bunker Hunt, who bred her first four foals. She ended her broodmare career as the property of Thomas M. Evans, who bred her last foal, the Swaps colt Dandy Swaps, in 1966.
Pedigree notes
Lori-El is inbred 4x5x5 to two-time American champion and two-time American champion sire Sweep. Sired by 1946 American Derby winner Eternal Reward, she is a half sister to 1969 Correction Handicap winner Native Tree (by Native Dancer) and to juvenile stakes winner Miss Summer Time (by Summer Tan). She is also a half sister to Tretan (by Summer Tan), dam of multiple stakes winner Summer Room (by Reading Room).
Lori-El is out of Trefoil, a winning daughter of 1946 Saratoga Special winner Grand Admiral and a half sister to stakes winner Oats (by Bimelech) and to stakes-placed Black Chiffon (by Good Goods). The last-named mare is the dam of juvenile stakes winner Katie Kitten (by Bandit), in turn the dam of 1972 Bonnie Miss Stakes winner Candid Catherine (by T. V. Lark).
Trefoil and her siblings are out of stakes-placed Yarrow Maid (by Cavalcade), whose full sister Milcave won the 1945 Vineland Handicap and is the dam of 1954 Jamaica Handicap winner Magic Lamp (by Alibhai). Produced from the Vulcain mare Milfoil, Yarrow Maid is also a half sister to 1934 Florida Derby winner Time Clock (by On Watch); to the minor stakes winner Tara's Hall (by Donnaconna); and to 1935 Clipsetta Stakes winner Mary Terry (by Terry), dam of 1958 Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Inside Tract (by Ace Admiral) and second dam of six stakes winners including 1958 Frizette Stakes winner Merry Hill and 1957 Prioress Stakes winner I Offbeat.
