Although he was one of the best French racehorses of his crop, Negofol had bad forelegs and tended to transmit unsoundness. He was a fairly successful sire in both Europe and the United States, but none of his sons were able to continue his male line.

As an individual
A bay horse with high withers, an excellent shoulder, a deep chest and a sloping croup, Negofol was rather upright in front and tied in below the knee. After Edward Simms imported him to the United States, he declared that he would never have imported the horse had he seen him first.
As a stallion
Negofol was second on the French general sire list in 1918, third in 1921 and eighth in 1920. Clio Hogan's Index to Stakes Winners 1865-1967 credits Negofol with 13 stakes winners in the United States, a figure that does not include the major French stakes winners Flechois, Juveigneur and Tchad. Sires and Dams of Stakes Winners 1925-1985 (Blood-Horse) credits him with 21 stakes winners. He was an influence for stamina.
Notable progeny
Coventry (USA), Dangerous (USA), Espino (USA), Flechois (FR), Hourless (GB), Juveigneur (FR), Sweet Verbena (USA), Tchad (FR), Vito (USA)
Connections
Negofol was owned by William K. Vanderbilt. He was trained by William Duke. He entered stud in 1910 at Haras du Quesnay in Normandy, France. Following his importation in 1920, he stood at Edward Simms' Xalapa Stud.
Pedigree notes
Negofol is outcrossed through five generations. A son of Cesarewitch Stakes winner Childwick (by St. Simon out of the great French race mare Plaisanterie), he was produced from Nebrouze (by Hoche).
