Packoy (ARG)

1912 – c. 1927

Perrier (GB) x Cecil (FR), by Bocage (FR)

Family 11-c

Arguably the best racer sired by Persimmon's good sire son Perrier, Packoy was a good but not exceptional runner. Like his sire, he was more effective as a sire of broodmares than as a sire of winners, but he did not have numbers on his side to break into the top of the broodmare sire standings as he died relatively young.

Race record

Complete record unavailable

1915:
  • Won Gran Premio Nacional (Argentine Derby) (ARG, 2500m, Palermo)

Also won:
  • Premio Raul y Raul E. Chevalier (ARG)

As an individual

A bay horse; no further information available.

As a stallion

Packoy was a better broodmare sire than he was a sire of winners.

Connections

Packoy was bred and owned by Jorge de Atucha's Haras Pelado. He stood at Haras Pelado after his retirement from racing.

Pedigree notes

Packoy is by the stakes-winning Persimmon horse Perrier, the leading Argentine broodmare sire of 1931. He is inbred 4x5 to 1875 Derby Stakes winner and three-time English champion sire Galopin and to St. Angela through the full brother and sister St. Simon and Angelica.

Cecil, the dam of Packoy, was imported to Argentina in 1906. Sired by 1888 Prix Greffulhe winner Bocage, she was produced from the Bend Or mare Overdue, a half sister to two-time Eclipse Stakes winner and 1899 English/Irish champion sire Orme (by Ormonde). A daughter of Angelica, Overdue is also a half sister to the good stakes winner Blue Green (by Coeruleus; also seen spelled as “Blue-Green”) and to Blue Rose (by Coeruleus), second dam of 1907 Brooklyn Handicap winner Superman.
