A modestly successful sprinter-miler as a racehorse in France, Pepenador was exported to Argentina at the conclusion of his racing career. There, he became the last important sire from the high-quality but often infertile male line of St. Germans, heading both the general sire list and the broodmare sire list.

A muscular bay horse, Pepenador had a good shoulder and powerful hindquarters, but his back appeared weakly constructed. He appeared to he somewhat short-legged for his height and his pasterns were slightly long.
As a stallion
Pepenador was voted the Pellegrini Award as Argentina’s “Stallion of the Year” in 1989. According to statistics compiled by The Jockey Club, Pepenador sired 54 winners (16.1%) and 42 stakes winners (12.5%) from 336 named foals, but records for his starters and winners are almost certainly incomplete.
