Picacero was a good racehorse in his native Argentina, but it was as a stallion that he truly excelled. The third Argentine-bred horse to lead the nation's general sire list, he was also a two-time champion broodmare sire. He is best known as the sire of once-beaten Rico, winner of the Argentine Quadruple Crown in 1922.

Pedigree notes
Picacero is inbred 5x5 to seven-time English champion sire Stockwell and 5x5 to Stockwell's half brother, two-time English champion sire King Tom. He is a half brother to Argentine stakes winner Precursor (by Sans Atout). His dam Picara is a full sister to Pillito, a two-time winner of the Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini, Argentina's most prestigious all-aged race. Picara's dam Picardia (by El Plata) is out of the French-bred import Legere (by the good French stakes winner Nougat), whose dam L'etrangere was sired by 1863 Derby Stakes winner Macaroni.
