A full sister to 1922 Coaching Club American Oaks winner Prudish, Prudery was more durable and more consistent. A consensus choice as the American champion or co-champion of her division for two consecutive years, she retired to an equally successful though brief broodmare career during which she produced two Classic winners. Unfortunately, her only daughter, the Chicle filly Coquetry, was not a successful producer, and her sons also failed to make much lasting impact.

Connections

Pedigree notes
Prudery is inbred 4x5 to the important 19th century broodmare Mannie Gray. She is a full sister to 1922 Coaching Club American Oaks winner Prudish, dam of multiple stakes winner Comstockery (by Chicle) and second dam of multiple stakes winners Haltal, Very Snooty and Beldine. Prudery is also a full sister to the good stakes winner Macaw and a half sister to Polly Pennant (by Peter Pan's son Pennant), dam of stakes winner Infinity (by Eternal); second dam of 1946 Mexican Horse of the Year Plucky Flag, 1942 Ashland Stakes winner The Swallow, and the multiple stakes-winning steeplechaser Torturer; and third dam of three-time Mexican champion older female Plucky Raf. Another half sister to Prudery, Tonala (by Broomstick), is the third dam of three-time American champion steeplechaser Neji and 1963 American champion grass horse Mongo.
Prudery's dam Polly Flinders is a full sister to juvenile stakes winner Slipshod and a half sister to 1913 Preakness Stakes winner Buskin (by Burgomaster's sire Hamburg). She is also a half sister to multiple stakes producer Comfort (by Broomstick). Polly Flinders was produced from Slippers (by Meddler), the most important daughter of the great 19th-century matron Cinderella (by Blue Ruin or Tomahawk).

Fun facts
- Prudery was the second filly to start as favorite for the Kentucky Derby, following Regret in 1915. In Prudery's case, she ran as an entry with her stablemate Tryster.
- Prudery was the last filly to finish in the money in the Kentucky Derby until Genuine Risk won the race in 1980.
- While Prudery's sire Peter Pan and maternal granddam Slippers are both out of mares named Cinderella, this is a matter of duplicate names and not inbreeding. Peter Pan's dam is a daughter of Hermit—Mazurka and is from Family 2-o, while Slippers' dam is by Blue Ruin or Tomahawk out of Manna and is from Family 21-a. Both mares were bred in England and were imported to the United States in the late 19th century.
