Quaze Quilt was not as good a race mare as her half sister Susan's Girl, but she was good enough at 3 to win the Kentucky Oaks (USA-G2) and to score a front-running upset in the Alabama Stakes (USA-G1) at the expense of eventual divisional champion Chris Evert. Unfortunately, she failed to repeat her 3-year-old form as an older female, and she proved completely barren when tried as a broodmare.
Race record
47 starts, 11 wins, 8 seconds, 6 thirds, US$282,628

1976:
Assessments
Weighted at 122 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American 3-year-old fillies of 1972, 4 pounds below champion Chris Evert.
As an individual
A big, strong chestnut mare, Quaze Quilt had prominent withers. She was a front runner by preference. She did not race as a juvenile.
Connections
Foaled in Florida, Quaze Quilt was bred and owned by Fred W. Hooper. She was trained at various times by T. W. Kelley Jr., J. E. Picou and C. R. Parke. She was buried at Hooper Farm, but the date of her death is uncertain.
Pedigree notes
Sired by Specialmante (a winning son of Argentine champion 3-year-old male and champion sire Nigromante), Quaze Quilt is inbred 4x5 to 1933 English dual Classic winner and six-time English champion sire Hyperion. She is a half sister to three-time American champion Susan's Girl, who produced mutliple Grade 1 winner Copelan and listed stakes winner Paramount Jet to covers by Tri Jet and is the third dam of Grade 3 winner St. Joe Bay. Quaze Quilt is also a half sister to stakes winner Steel Pike (by Nadir).
With Quaze Quilt's Kentucky Oaks victory, her dam Quaze joined the select club of mares to foal two winners of the Classic as Susan's Girl had won the race in 1972. Quaze herself was the runner-up in the 1960 Kentucky Oaks and is a half sister to juvenile stakes winner Pryson (by Pry). Sired by Quibu (a major stakes winner in Argentina and Uruguay), she is out of Heavenly Sun, an unraced daughter of Hooper's foundation sire Olympia and the winner Daffy (by The Porter).
Books and media
Quaze Quilt is profiled in Chapter 10 of Avalyn Hunter's American Classic Pedigrees 1914-2002 (2003, Eclipse Press).

Fun facts
- Quaze Quilt's victory in the Kentucky Oaks (USA-G2) headlined a Fred Hooper homebred exacta in the race, as her stablemate Special Team (winner of a division of the Acorn Stakes, G1) was second. It was also an exacta for Hooper's stallion Specialmante, who sired both fillies.
