Not too many mares earn both a championship on the track and a championship in the breeding shed, but Relaxing did exactly that after returning to the United States from racing with limited success in England. The American champion older female of 1981, Relaxing produced three Grade 1 winners and was named the Kentucky Broodmare of the Year in 1989, making her one of the more distinguished members of the Big Hurry branch of the La Troienne family.
Race record
28 starts, 13 wins, 2 seconds, 5 thirds, US$589,195 (including converted earnings from England)

As an individual
A bay mare, Relaxing was good-sized and smoothly made with a deep chest and strong hindquarters. She generally preferred to stalk the early pace and was very hard to beat if she could grab the lead by the stretch call. She missed about four months in the middle of her 5-year-old season due to injury.
As a producer
Relaxing produced 12 named foals, of which nine started and won. Her important foals are as follow:
Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Relaxing was bred and owned by Ogden Phipps. She was trained by John Dunlop in England and by Angel Penna in the United States. Relaxing died of complications of foaling in May 1999 and was buried at Claiborne Farm.
Pedigree notes
Relaxing is inbred 4x4 to La Troienne and 5x5x5 to La Troienne's sire Teddy. She is a half sister to A Pretty Smile (by Honest Pleasure), second dam of Grade 1-placed listed stakes winner and multiple listed stakes producer Lady Melesi and third dam of Grade 3 winner English Affair.
Relaxing is out of 1966 Acorn Stakes winner Marking Time, whose half sister Processional (by Reviewer) produced multiple stakes winner Rain on My Parade (by Little Current) and is the second dam of 2001 Coaching Club American Oaks (USA-G1) winner Tweedside and Grade/Group 2 winners Nice Bet, Evanescent and Tactical Advantage. Marking Time, in turn, is out of Allemande (by Counterpoint), a daughter of Big Hurry and so a half sister to five stakes winners including 1946 American champion 3-year-old filly Bridal Flower (by Challenger II) and National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame member Searching (by War Admiral), an important matron in her own right. Allemande is also a half sister to No Fiddling (by King Cole), dam of 1967 American champion handicap female Straight Deal (by Hail to Reason) and second dam of 1966 American champion 2-year-old filly Regal Gleam.
