Notable progeny
Aimara (ARG), La Tona (ARG), Lepanto (ARG), Vainilla (ARG)
Connections
San Jorge was bred by Adolfo and Rufino Luro's Haras El Moro and raced for their racing stable, Caballeriza Petite Ecurie. He stood at Haras El Moro.
Pedigree notes
San Jorge is inbred 5x5 to seven-time English champion sire Stockwell and to two-time English champion sire Newminster. Both stallions were winners of the classic St. Leger Stakes, and Stockwell won the Two Thousand Guineas as well. San Jorge is a full brother to San Pascual, winner of the Premio Congreso.
Silver Shot, the dam of San Jorge, was sired by Carbine, probably the greatest horse produced in the Southern Hemisphere during the 19th century and a highly influential sire. She was produced from Golden Moments (by 1889 Jockey Club Stakes winner Sheen), whose half sister Miss Gunning (by Carbine) is the second dam of 1931 Belgian Derby winner Welriekende and the third dam of 1924 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) and Prix Royal-Oak (French St. Leger) winner Uganda, herself an important broodmare.
Golden Moments, in turn, is out of 1890 Oaks Stakes and St. Leger Stakes winner Memoir (by St. Simon), an excellent race mare in her own right and a full sister to the great La Fleche, still considered one of the greatest English race mares of all time. Produced from the Toxophilite mare Quiver, Memoir is also a half sister to the fine broodmare Maid Marian (by Hampton), whose credits include five-time English champion sire Polymelus.

Fun facts
- San Jorge is the Spanish equivalent of “St. George,” the patron saint of England, Ethiopia, Georgia and the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia among other places. Believed to have been a military officer who was martyred by the Roman emperor Diocletian for refusing to renounce the Christian faith, he later became the subject of a legend in which he slew a dragon near Silene, Libya, and thus rescued the daughter of the king of the city.
