American Family 26
Generally considered the American champion 3-year-old filly of 1931 and the American champion handicap female of 1933, Tambour was much the best runner sired by 1923 Preakness Stakes runner-up General Thatcher (by Sweep). Troubled by fertility problems, she produced only two foals and had no long-term impact on pedigrees.

As an individual
A bay mare; no further information available.
As a producer
Tambour produced only two foals, neither of which ever raced. Her daughter Flute (by Lancegaye) is the dam of two-time Mexican Horse of the Year Siete Leguas (by Osculator) and Mexican stakes winner Martucha (by Nedayr).
Connections
Tambour was bred, owned and trained by Preston M. Burch. Following her racing career, she passed to the ownership of Mrs. Marion duPont Somerville, who bred her daughter Flute. Tambour's last owner was Abram S. Hewitt, who bred the 1939 colt Tabret (by Lancegaye) from her.
Pedigree notes
Tambour is inbred 5x5 to Himyar and Mannie Gray through the full brother and sister Domino and Correction. She is also inbred 5x5 to nine-time English champion sire St. Simon, unbeaten winner of the 1884 Ascot Gold Cup. Tambour is a half sister to Miss Kilrane (by Olambala), dam of steeplechase stakes winner War Lance (by Lancegaye).
Tambour's dam Castanet was produced from the Yankee mare Kaskaskia, a stakes-winning half sister to 1913 Southampton Handicap winner Strenuous (by Stalwart). The next dam in the tail-female line, Kiamesha (by Esher), is out of the Zorille mare Reflection, making her a full sister to 1902 Brooklyn Handicap winner Reina, 1902 Flash Stakes winner Judith Campbell and stakes winner Moharib.
Books and media
Tambour is profiled in Chapter 6 of Avalyn Hunter's American Classic Pedigrees 1914-2002 (2003, Eclipse Press).
