By an unfashionable sire and less than outstanding as a physical specimen, Tia Gigi sold for the bargain-basement price of US$1,200 as a weanling. She proved a great bargain for her Peruvian purchasers. Foaled on Northern Hemisphere time, she gave away three to six months of development to the South American-foaled youngsters of her year but was nonetheless ranked as the best Peruvian 3-year-old filly and best female runner of any age of 1993, whipping males in important races into the bargain. She repeated her championship form in in 1994 and 1995. Repatriated to the United States following her racing career, she proved a much better racer than broodmare but in fairness spent over half her producing career being put to good racehorses who turned out to be bad sires.

Foaled in Kentucky, Tia Gigi was bred by Maverick Inv, John T. L. Jones III, and Vogt & Krusen. She was sold for US$1,200 at the 1990 Keeneland November mixed sale and was exported to Peru. She was trained by Camilo Traverso. Sent back to the United States following her racing career, she produced her first two foals for owner Julio Mejia. She was then sent to the 1999 Keeneland January mixed sale when not in foal and sold for US$210,000. Her next five foals were bred by the partnership of Mill Ridge Farm, Jamm, and Dr. John A. Chandler. Returning to the Keeneland January sale in 2006, in foal to Came Home, Tia Gigi sold for US$55,000. She then produced the foal she was carrying for Chip Montgomery before moving on to Haymarket Farm, which bred two more foals from her. Her last foal, the 2010 Suave filly Go Go Gigi, was bred by Big Z Thoroughbred Racing.
