A filly who combined rare consistency with versatility, winning with equal aplomb on both dirt and turf. Turkish Trousers became the first Eclipse Award winner in the 3-year-old filly division in spite of never running outside California and missing the fall racing season. After a second to eventual divisional champion Typecast in her seasonal debut in the Santa Monica Handicap at 4, she beat Typecast in her next two outings but afterward tailed off and disappeared from the racing wars after July. Unfortunately, she was a disappointment as a broodmare.

Honors
Eclipse Award, American champion 3-year-old filly
Assessments
Highweighted at 126 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American 3-year-old fillies of 1971, 1 pound above Kittiwake.
Weighted at 123 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American older females of 1972, 3 pounds below Chou Croute, who was named champion in the sprint division. (Typecast, the official champion older female, was given 128 pounds on the Free Handicap for turf females.)
As an individual
A dark bay or brown mare standing about 16 hands, Turkish Trousers was considered exceptionally attractive and elegant, although she could be quite temperamental. She was highly competitive and completely game on the track but at the same time saw no point in doing more than she needed to in order to win. She had an excellent shoulder and strong quarters, though she tapered markedly through the barrel when in racing trim. Her action was catlike, agile and capable of quick acceleration.
As a producer
Turkish Trousers produced five named foals, of which four started and won. She produced three stakes-placed runners, but neither of her daughters were of significance as producers..
Connections
Foaled at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky, Turkish Trousers was bred by Howard Keck and raced in his wife Libby's colors. She produced her last foal, the Hoist the Flag filly Corselette, in 1980.
Pedigree notes
Turkish Trousers is inbred 4x4 to 1935 English Triple Crown winner Bahram, 5x5x5 to Bahram's sire Blandford, and 5x5 to Phalaris and Scapa Flow through the full brothers Fairway and Pharos. She is a full sister to Beja, winner of the 1970 Linda Vista Handicap and Del Mar Oaks. She is also a half sister to 1969 Hollywood Derby winner Tell (by Round Table), to 1983 Sunset Handicap (USA-G1) winner Craelius (by Avatar), to multiple Grade 2 winner Epidaurus (by Ack Ack) and to 1979 La Habra Stakes winner Celine (by Damascus), dam of Grade 2 winner Petalia (by Sir Ivor). In addition, Turkish Trousers is a half sister to stakes-placed Irish Mail (by Bagdad's sire Double Jay), dam of 1979 Oak Tree Invitational Stakes (USA-G1) winner Balzac (by Buckpasser) and 1975 Del Mar Oaks (USA-G3) winner Snap Apple (by Herbager) and second dam of Grade 3 winner Good Economics.
Turkish Trouser's dam Nas-Mahal is a stakes-winning half sister to 1961 Bowie Handicap winner Road House (by Hasty Road). She is also a half sister to Beesandbirds (by Princequillo), dam of Italian stakes winner Brauner (by Never Bend).
Nas-Mahal, in turn, was produced from 1951 Kingsclere Stakes winner Love Game (Big Game--Knight's Daughter, by Sir Cosmo), a half sister to 1958 American Horse of the Year Round Table (by Princequillo), the American champion sire of 1972. Love Game is also a half sister to 1959 Arlington Lassie Stakes winner Monarchy (by Princequillo), a notable Claiborne Farm foundation mare in her own right; to stakes producer Yarmouth (by Watling Street) and to Cub Hunt (by Foxhunter), second dam of 1967 Prix d'Harcourt winner Cadmus and multiple Japanese Group 3 winner Droppo Lord.
