Cee's Song retired to the breeding shed with modest credentials. A winner with no black type to her name, she had an unfashionable pedigree and came from a female line that, while it had a decent production record, had not thrown a top-class horse since Crimson Satan, a son of her fifth dam. Nonetheless, repeated matings to the Relaunch horse Cee's Tizzy proved to be a match made in heaven, producing four stakes winners (one a champion and successful sire) and two Grade 1-producing daughters.
Race record
18 starts, 1 win, 8 seconds, 3 thirds, US$82,225
Honors
California Broodmare of the Year (2000)
As an individual
An attractive, strongly-made dark bay or brown mare, Cee's Song had a good shoulder, powerful hindquarters and strong muscling down through her forearms and gaskins. Her withers were rather flat and her cannons were short. Her main flaw as a racehorse appears to have been unwillingness to leave the safety of the herd rather than talent.
As a producer
Cee's Song is designated as a Reine-de-Course by pedigree analyst Ellen Parker. She produced 14 foals, of which 13 started and eight won. Her important foals are as follow:
Connections
Cee's Song was bred by Cotswold Farms 1981, Ltd. She was owned by Cecelia Straub-Rubens, who used her nickname “Cee” as an element in many of her horses' names. Following Straub-Rubens' death from cancer, Cee's Song, then back in foal to Cee's Tizzy, was consigned to the 2001 Keeneland November breeding stock sale and was purchased for US$2.6 million by Gerry Dilger's Dromoland Farm. Her last five foals were all bred by Barnett Enterprises, a client of the Irish-based Coolmore racing and breeding conglomerate. Cee's Song died of natural causes in April 2011 at Ashford Stud, Coolmore's Kentucky division.
