A member of a vintage crop, Cohoes had no pretensions to being a champion but was a good, honest, consistent runner who was always dangerous at sprint and intermediate distances. He proved quite a useful sire and broodmare sire and got at least one runner better than himself in 1964 Belmont Stakes winner Quadrangle. He also left his mark on pedigrees through the important broodmare Miss Swapsco and sired the champion steeplechaser Shadow Brook.
