Arguably the best runner sired by 1927 Preakness Stakes winner Bostonian, Fiji was one of the better sophomore fillies of her crop but was more known for hardiness than brilliance. Her greatest contribution to her breed as a broodmare is as the second dam of 1953 Kentucky Derby winner and successful sire Dark Star.

Fun facts
- Fiji is named after an island nation in Melanesia that lies about 1,100 nautical miles northeast of New Zealand.
- Fiji shares her name with two more recent entries in the American Stud Book. The first is a 1956 daughter of Hill Prince who won the 1958 Alicbiades Stakes and produced stakes winners Seaman (by Turn-to) and Riboprince (by Ribot). The second is a 1997 colt by Kingmambo who won but did not achieve any distinction.
