1898 – 1917
Esher (GB) x War Mantle (USA), by St. Martin (USA)
Family 12-b*
A well-regarded filly at both 2 and 3, Lady Schorr faced only two opponents for the Kentucky Oaks and had no difficulty with either, leading from gate to wire. She next won the Latonia Oaks against a single rival before winning two races and losing two over the Chicago area tracks. She was expected to be a contender for the American Derby but pulled up lame the day before the race and was unable to start again for the rest of the year. She returned to the races at age 4 but failed to show her old form and was retired to a disappointing broodmare career.

1901:
As an individual
A good-sized, lengthy bay mare, Lady Schorr was considered exceptionally attractive. She was resolute and game when racing and had a sensible disposition. She was a free-running filly who resented restraint.
As a producer
Lady Schorr produced eight named foals. Her only foal of any importance was her Star Shoot daughter Watch Your Stitch, who produced stakes winner Quickaway (by Whiskaway).
Connections
Lady Schorr was bred by Mrs. E. I. Clay and raced in the colors of John F. Schorr. She was trained by George Walker. In September of her 4-year-old season, she was purchased by John E. Madden as part of a US$30,000 package deal that included the 2-year-olds Onontas and Judith Campbell. She remained in Madden's ownership throughout her broodmare career.
Pedigree notes
Sired by the good English import Esher, Lady Schorr is inbred 5x5 to the important 19th-century matrons Pocahontas and Queen Mary. Her dam War Mantle is a half sister to Tarletan (by Uhlan), dam of 1915 King's Plate winner Tartarean (by Stanhope) and 1916 Durham Cup winner Copper King. She is also a half sister to Cuirass (by Stratford), dam of juvenile stakes winner Judge Davey (by Giganteum).
War Mantle and her sisters are out of War Dress (by War Dance), whose dam Brocade (by Bonnie Scotland) is a half sister to Libbie L. (by Bramble), dam of 1900 Belmont Stakes winner Ildrim (by Kingston). The female line was originally believed to trace back to Diana, the foundation mare of Family 12-b through an unnamed mare by Jack of Diamonds; however, analysis of mitochondrial DNA (which is only transmitted through the female line) has demonstrated that the descendants of the Jack of Diamonds mare have a different mtDNA line than animals whose descent from Diana is traced through other daughters.

Fun facts
- According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Lady Schorr's chances of winning the 1901 American Derby were thrown away after she worked the race's 12-furlong distance in 2:35 two days before the race itself. Because of doubts expressed about her time, she was brought out again the following day and worked the same distance in under 2:34 but pulled up lame.
