Neapolis (GB) x Loberia (ARG), by El Amigo (GB)

Family 7-a

Not to be confused with the French runner and sire of the same name, Le Sancy was the third consecutive colt to take the Gran Premio Jockey Club/Gran Premio Nacional (Argentine Derby) double. He was not particularly successful as a sire.

Race record

Complete record unavailable

1898:
  • Won Gran Premio Nacional (Argentine Derby) (ARG, 2500mD, Palermo)
  • Won Gran Premio Jockey Club (ARG, 2000mD, Hipódromo Argentino)

As an individual

A strongly-made gray horse, Le Sancy had a well-laid shoulder but rather low withers.

As a stallion

Le Sancy was a stakes sire but did not get any progeny approaching his own talent.

Connections

Le Sancy was bred by Manuel Güiraldes' Haras Las Ortigas and raced for Carlos Luro's Caballeriza Los Cardos. He stood at Haras Las Ortigas. His last known foals were registered in 1916.

Pedigree notes

Sired by seven-time Argentine champion sire Neapolis, Le Sancy is inbred 4x5 to seven-time English champion sire Stockwell, winner of the 1852 Two Thousand Guineas and St. Leger Stakes. He is a full brother to La Fronde, dam of multiple Argentine stakes winner Eclair (by Orange), and to Las Ortigas, second dam of Clasico Presidente de la Republica winner Hablenomas.

Loberia, the dam of Le Sancy, was produced from the French-bred Louvetonne, who was imported to Argentina in 1889. Sired by Flageolet's stakes-winning son Ismael, Louvetonne was produced from the English mare Mrs. Allen (by 1866 Great Yorkshire Stakes winner Strathconan), whose name was changed to “Mistress Allen” following her arrival in France.
