A consistent and classy performer despite a rather unfashionable pedigree, Lord Avie.was a consensus choice as the best American 2-year-old male of 1980 after a strong fall campaign. He appeared poised to continue at the head of his crop at 3 but began having leg problems, eventually forcing his retirement with the important fall races still to come.
