One of the greats of Argentine racing history, Macon never knew defeat on the race course and was the clear champion of his generation. He was not nearly as good a sire as he was a racer, but his daughters helped make up for this lack, making him a champion broodmare sire in his native country. His greatest contribution to Thoroughbred bloodlines was as the broodmare sire of the important Argentine sire and broodmare sire Seductor.

Macon was bred by Haras Ojo de Agua and raced in the colors of Jorge Mitre's Caballeriza Don Alfonso. He was trained by Naciano Moreno. He stood at Haras Argentino, where he died in 1945.
Pedigree notes
Macon is inbred 3x4 to nine-time English champion sire St. Simon, an unbeaten champion on the race course, and 4x5x4 to St. Simon's sire Galopin, himself the winner of the 1875 Derby Stakes and a three-time champion sire in England. He is a full brother to the great Argentine race mare Cote d'Or, winner of the 1931 Gran Premio Selección (Argentine Oaks) and 1933 Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini and the second dam of 1957 Gran Premio Polla de Potrancas (Uruguayan One Thousand Guineas) winner Cote Royale. Cote d'Or is also the second dam of Aurreko, who won the 1953 Gran Premio Polla de Potrillos (Uruguayan Two Thousand Guineas) and the 1954 Gran Premio José P. Ramírez (Uruguay's top race for horses 3 and older).
Also a half brother to Uruguayan stakes winner Romanee (by Cyllene) and to Beaune (by Cyllene), dam of 1941 Argentine Horse of the Year Bon Vin (by Congreve), Macon was produced from Bourgogne, a half sister to 1916 Gran Premio Nacional (Argentine Derby) winner Saint Emilion (by Cyllene) and to the good Argentine stakes winner and two-time Chilean champion sire Barsac (by Kendal). Bourgogne is also a half sister to Iquem (by Pulgarin), whose daughter La Mission (by Congreve) won the Argentine Quadruple Crown of 1940 and is still regarded as one of the greatest race mares in Argentine history.
Bourgogne, is out of the Gay Hermit mare Albilla, whose stakes-winning full brother Charcot is believed to be the first horse to have won races on three continents (Africa, Europe, and South America). Another full brother to Albilla, Celso, was a stakes winner in Argentina and led the Chilean general sire list in 1915. Albilla and her siblings are out of Nesta (by Galopin), who was imported from England into Argentina in 1889.
