Your Majesty (GB)

1905 – 1934

Persimmon (GB) x Yours (Ity), by Melton (GB)

Family 22-d

Your Majesty suffered his share of physical ailments during his racing career, which perhaps kept him from earning even higher acclaim as a racehorse, but as it was he was quite good. A Classic winner in the race course, he went on to become an important sire and broodmare sire in Argentina

Connections

Your Majesty was bred and owned by Jack B. Joel, who reportedly refused an offer of £35,000 for the colt at the end of Your Majesty's four-year-old season. Your Majesty stood the 1910 and 1911 seasons in England before being sold for £22,500 to Luis Castello, who stood Your Majesty at his Haras Punta Lara. Your Majesty later moved to Haras Ojo de Agua, where he died in 1934.

Pedigree

Your Majesty is inbred 3x4 to 1875 Derby Stakes winner and three-time English champion sire Galopin. He is a half brother to 1903 Oaks Stakes winner Our Lassie (by Ayrshire), whose stakes-winning daughter Lady Brilliant (by Sundridge) is the second dam of 1933 English co-champion 3-year-old filly Eclair, 1930 English champion 2-year-old male Jacopo and 1936 English champion 2-year-old male Foray II and is the ancestress of champions and/or important sires Blushing Groom, Hansen, Khaled, Lady's Secret, Mill Reef and King Kamehameha.

Your Majesty was produced from Yours, an Italian-bred daughter of 1885 Derby Stakes winner Melton who was initially purchased for 750 guineas from the 1897 Tattersalls December Sales by Woolf Joel, brother of Jack Joel. Jack Joel inherited the mare after Woolf Joel was murdered in South Africa. Yours is out of Your Grace, by 1883 Two Thousand Guineas winner Galliard out of Grand Duchess (by Lozenge).
