Although Mr. Greeley’s pedigree suggested that at least 9 furlongs should have been within his scope, he proved to be a sprinter instead, and a very good one. A three-time Grade 3 winner over sprint distances and a close second to Desert Stormer in the 1995 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (USA-G1), Mr. Greeley proved inconsistent as a sire but got some very fast and talented runners who were better than he.

A powerful, muscular, handsome chestnut with a very good shoulder and hip, Mr. Greeley stood 16.1 hands. He had a pleasant, cooperative disposition.

Foaled in Kentucky, Mr. Greeley was bred by Herman Sarkowsky. After being purchased for US$185,000 from the 1994 Keeneland July yearling sale, Mr. Greeley raced for William J. Condren and Joseph Cornacchia and was trained by Nick Zito. The colt entered stud in Kentucky in 1996 at Gainesway Farm. He stood his entire stud career at Gainesway and was euthanized in November 30 after a several weeks’ battle with laminitis. He was buried at Gainesway.
