Nest was bred to be a high-class filly and lived up to her genetic potential. A high-class juvenile, she came into her own at 3, winning three Grade 1 stakes. She was denied a Classic success by her stablemate Mo Donegal in the Belmont Stakes (USA-G1) and by Secret Oath in the Kentucky Oaks (USA-G1), but she had done enough to clinch honors as American champion 3-year-old fily. Her 4-year-old campaign was rather disappointing given the heights she had reached earlier, and injury brought her career to an end ahead of schedule at 5.

Eclipse Award, American champion 3-year-old filly (2022)
Assessments
Rated at 118 pounds in both the Mile and Intermediate categories on the 2022 Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings, 22 pounds below overall highweight Flightline (the American Horse of the Year) but tied with American champion older female Malathaat and American champion female sprinter Goodnight Olive as the best females on dirt.
Rated at 116 pounds in the Mile category on the 2023 Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings, 19 pounds below the overall highweight, Japanese Horse of the Year Equinox; 5 pounds below the top-rated females, European highweight older female Emily Upjohn and Japanese champion 3-year-old filly Liberty Island; and 1 pound below the top-rated dirt female, Ballerina Handicap (USA-G1) winner Echo Zulu.
As an individual
An attractive, well-balanced bay mare, Nest has a beautifully sloped shoulder and a deep girth, with excellent hind leg conformation.
Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Nest was bred by Ashview Farm and Colts Neck Stables. Sold for US$350,000 at the 2020 Keeneland September yearling sale, she was owned by Mike Repole's Repole Stable, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, and Michael House. She was trained by Todd Pletcher and was ridden to her Coaching Club American Oaks score by Irad Ortiz Jr. Following the filly's 4-year-old campaign, Repole bought out his partners by bidding Nest in for US$6 million at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton "Night of the Stars" sale. Repole announced plans to campaign Nest at 5, but Nest was officially retired May 8, 2024, without having started again due to concerns about an abnormality in her left hind ankle. She was sent to Uncle Mo for her first mating a few days later.
Pedigree notes
Nest is inbred 3x5 to two-time American champion sire Mr. Prospector; 4x5 to Mr. Prospector’s sire, 1963 American co-champion 2-year-old male Raise a Native; and 5x5 to the great international sire Northern Dancer, the 1964 Canadian Horse of the Year and American champion 3-year-old male. She is a full sister to 2021 Santa Anita Handicap (USA-G1) winner Idol and a half sister to listed stakes winner Lost Ark (by Violence).
Marion Ravenwood, the dam of Nest and her siblings, won the 2011 Capades Stakes at Aqueduct and is a half sister to Grade 3-placed stakes winner Abstraction (by Pulpit). She is out of 2005 Milady Breeders’ Cup Handicap (USA-G2) winner Andujar (by Quiet American), whose half sister Pola (by Strawberry Road) is the dam of multiple listed stakes winner Going Wild (by Golden Missile) and stakes winner Pola’s Place (by Out of Place) and is the third dam of Grade 2 winner Big Invasion. Andujar, in turn, is out of French listed stakes winner Nureyev’s Best (Nureyev x Meadow Blue, by Raise a Native x Gay Hostess), whose half sister Really Blue (by Believe It) is the dam of 1998 American champion 3-year-old male Real Quiet (by Quiet American) and the second dam of Grade 2 winner Real Cozzy.
