In a year with a weak juvenile male division in the United States, Occupy was about as good as anything running and shared divisional honors with Platter at season's end. He trained on to win stakes at ages 3 and 5 before retiring to stud, where he had limited impact except through his daughters Little Hut, dam of the fine sires Habitat and Northfields, and Bridgework, second dam of the good stallion Kris S.

Connections
Occupy was bred and owned by John Marsch III. He was trained by Burley Parke at 2 and 3, transferring to the barn of F. E. Childs during his 5-year-old season. Marsch sold him to Abe Hirschberg during the winter of 1946-1947, and Hirschberg in turn sold the horse to a syndicate headed by Alfred Vanderbilt and Adolphe Pons in March 1947. Occupy entered stud in Maryland in 1947, initially standing at Vanderbilt's Sagamore Farm; he moved to Country Life Farm after the 1952 breeding season.
Pedigree notes
Occupy is outcrossed through five generations. He is a full brother to 1942 Futurity Stakes winner Occupation, generally considered the second best juvenile male of that year behind the great Count Fleet. He is also a full brother to multiple stakes winner Preoccupy and to Draeh, dam of juvenile stakes winner Nevada P.J. (by Prince John) and second dam of the good racer and sire Fleet Nasrullah, French Group II winner Gay Saint and multiple Grade III winner Viva La Vivi. In addition, Occupy is a full brother to Good Hope, third dam of Belgian Group III winner Fatty's Choice, and a half brother to Rockabye (by Blenheim II), second dam of 1958 Woodbine Oaks winner Yummy Mummy, Brazilian Group II winner Conestoga Girl and Grade III winner Soul Mate.
Miss Bunting, the dam of Occupy and his siblings, won two minor stakes races as a juvenile and is a half sister to Listening (by Morse Code), dam of juvenile stakes winner Port List (by Port Au Prince). She is out of Mirthful, an unraced daughter of North Star III. The next dam in Occupy's tail-female line, the Ogden mare Dismiss, also produced Dispute (by Friar Rock), dam of the minor stakes winner Tiff (by Spanish Prince II). A half sister to 1919 Adirondack Handicap winner Grayssian (by Hessian), Dispute is out of the Hamburg mare Dorothy Gray, whose dam Mannie Himyar is a full sister to the great speedster and sire Domino.
