Northfields was a useful but not top-class racehorse as a 3-year-old in the United States. He proved a good sire in both Ireland and South Africa but had his greatest influence as a sire of broodmares.

Foaled in Kentucky, Northfields was bred by the Nuckols Brothers. He was owned by John M. Olin and trained by Woody Stephens. He stood in Ireland in 1972-1983, transferring to South Africa after the 1983 Northern Hemisphere breeding season. He died in South Africa in 1993 as the result of a paddock accident.
