After being tried on turf as a juvenile, On a Soapbox put it together on dirt at 3 and scored easily in the Coaching Club American Oaks (USA-G1) outstaying Dream Supreme (who would go on to win two Grade 1 races at 7 furlongs). On a Soapbox never reached quite the same heights again but was a stakes winner at 4 and 5 before retiring to a good but not outstanding broodmare career.

Connections
Bred in Kentucky by Brereton Jones, On a Soapbox raced for Leslie R. Grimm and Gene Voss. He was trained by Niall O’Callaghan and was ridden to her Coaching Club American Oaks score by Jerry Baily. Following her racing career and a slipped foal in 2002, she was purchased by Newsells Park Stud for US$1.25 million from the 2002 Keeneland November mixed sale, in foal to Danzig. Her last known produce was a 2016 filly by Equiano that was never named.
Pedigree notes
Easily the best of four stakes winners sired by 1993 King’s Bishop Stakes (USA-G2) winner Mi Cielo (by Conquistador Cielo), On a Soapbox is inbred 5x4 to eight-time American champion sire Bold Ruler and to the important sire Turn-to. She is out of the winning Stage Door Johnny mare Makin a Statement, whose stajkes-placed dam Halcyon Queen (by Hail to Reason) is a half sister to French listed stakes winner Rodwell (by Roberto). Halcyon Queen is also a half sister to stakes-placed Foreign Missile (by Damascus), dam of multiple Grade 3 winner Squan Song (by Exceller) and Irish Group 3 winner Heron Bay (by Alleged) and third dam of Grade 3 winner Omega Code. In addition, Halcyon Queen is a half sister to stakes-placed Club Class (by Roberto), second dam of 2008 Saudi Arabian Horse of the Year Wased Albana Yed.
Halcyon Queen was produced from unraced Queen of the Sky, a full sister to 1964 American champion 2-year-old male Bold Lad, 1966 American champion 2-year-old male Successor, 1965 New Castle Stakes winner Beautiful Day, and 1963 Test Stakes winner Bold Consort. Also a half sister to 1963 Gallant Fox Handicap winner Sunrise Flight (by Double Jay), Queen of the Sky is out of Misty Morn (by Princequillo), the 1955 American champion 3-year-old filly and co-champion handicap female and the 1963 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year.
