Family 8-c
A half brother to Grade 1 winner and two-time American champion sire Storm Cat, Pioneering showed much less ability on the track while racing only as a juvenile; he has also been less high-profile as a sire. Nonetheless, he was a useful stallion in Kentucky. Exported to Brazil following the 2009 Northern Hemisphere breeding season, Pioneering has ranked six times among the top 10 sires in his adopted country.
Race record
6 starts, 2 wins, 0 seconds, 0 thirds, US$39,426
As an individual
A chestnut horse, Pioneering stood 16 hands. He had the powerful hindquarters passed down from Terlingua and the straight hind leg typical of Mr. Prospector but was leggier and not as muscular in the forehand as his half brother Storm Cat.
As a stallion
As of May 14, 2023, The Jockey Club credits Pioneering with having sired 633 winners (62.1%) and 64 stakes winners (6.3%) from 1020 named foals of racing age.

Fun facts
- Pioneering is the sire of two winning white colts and a placed white filly produced from the white mare Patchen Beauty, who carries the W2 dominant white version of the KIT gene. Neither Patchen Prince nor Patchen Princess left any progeny, but The White Fox stood at stud in 2006-2010 and passed on his own unusual coloration.
